FUSILIER FACES SERIOUS CHARGE

Police Search For Body That Had Walked!"

Behind the appearance on Satur-" day at the Kowloon Magistracy of a British soldier accused of at- tempting to strangle o Chinese woman lies a strange story.

The soldier involved. Is Fusiller Thomas Morgan, of "B" Company, Royal Welch Fusiliers stationed at Shumshulpo Barracks.

4

It was learned from enquiries that Fusilier Morgan entered the Mongkok Police Station about 7:15 a.m. on Saturday and related to the Inspector on duty that he had committed murder, and had left behind the body of a Chinese wo- man in King's Park, close to the Kowicon Magistracy.

He was then taken into custody and was removed to Yaumati Po- lice Station. A squad of European and Chinese detectives, set out for the scene in search for the body. After a thorough combine of the vicinity no trace of the body could be found.

The police were beginning to doubt the sanity of the soldier, had

it not been the discovery of a most important clue, which disclosed the fact that a man, who was walking along Gascoigne Road in the early hours of that morning, was con- fronted by a woman covered with blood, who was in a state of col- lapse. He assisted her to her home at 25, Cheung Lok Street,

When the police discovered her she was in a serious condition. Her throat was terribly bruised and swollen, and there a was large cut

under the right eye which had been bleeding freely. She was re- moved to the Kowloon Hospital.

It was further learned that the woman, had had a quarrel with the soldier as they were walking in King's Fork early Saturday morn- 108.

Morgan was formally remanded by Mr. E. Himsworth on Saturday for three days, on the application of Det-Insp. A. E. Carey, for the prosecution.
