The Army Cup

The final round of the Army Cup was played at Aldershot when the Royal Army Service Corps, Train- the Training Ang Centre, beat

Battalion, Royal Engineers, by two. goals to one.

Fincher And Hung

In Final

E C Fucher and W. Húng en- terea the final of the Colony Open- Doubles Championship when they defeated Wong Fuk Nam and Lul on the stand court at the Hong Kong Cricket Club ground yester- day by scores of 6-0, 6-0, 6-2.

The match itself was not very ex- citing since Fincher and Hung had everything their own way, as their opponents cou'd not put up a good fight against them in volleying. Fincher proved to be very accurate with his smashing and if he should continue to play in such a manner in the final his partner and him self stand a very good chance of winning.

The R.AS.C. were undoubtedly the more accomplished side, and the speed and accuracy with which they carried out their attacking movements kept the RE defence in a continual state of uncertainty. Indeed, with a little more luck the R.AS.C. would have won by a more convincing margin, but on more than one occasion shots which ob- viously had the R.E. goalkeeper beaten struck the crossbar and re- bounded back into play. In fair- ness to the R.E defence, however, it must be stated that in Lance-. Wong and Lul made errors in Corporal B. Chan Tak Fai Snatches. Hat Trick

(BE ROY MURRAY} The fact that South China "B" and Eastern have long been count- ed out as participants in the Rines- South China "A" "marathon" had a paralysing effect on the interest shown in their League encounter yesterday at Caroline Hill. If either team had any material advantaga to gain it was China "B" whose hopes of occupying third place on the League chart is their one vanishing interest until the curtain falls on thirteen leg-weary teams.

Their victory of 5 goals to 3 over Eastern yesterday was quite a con- vincing one. Midway through the second half Eastern exerted an spurt to snatch the amazing

success, however, equalizer, this was short lived as Chan Tak Fai put the issue beyond doubt. Chin Chung Yin and Fau Ching. To proved Eastern's' most deadly for- ward combination, while Chan Ták Fal adopted successful bustling effect on the Eastern defence. In methods which had a barrassing the opening half Lee Bak Yau," Chuk Sak Kan and Chan Tak Fai scored for China "B." Goals in the second half came from Chan Tak Fat (2) for China "B" and Chin Piled for Eastern.

The R.E. forwards were handi-

pionship S. A. and H. D. Rumjahn structive play of their half-backs played a splendid match to defeat was very crude. Sergeant R. Mud-A. V. Gosano and Remedios, the ford did his best to cover up this weakness, but he found it quite impossible to play the role of a half-back as well as that of an in- side forward. In the circumstances the R.AB.C. half-backs were able to devote themselves almost entire-than the one played between Fin-Ching Yin (2). Soon Ling Sing re-

In the semi-final of the Club Championship. A L Sullivan en- tered, the final when he defeated G. E. Sewell by scores of 6-2, 6-4, 9-7. This was a very even contest and the victor well deserved his win after putting up a fine display of driving into the left and right hand corners of the court.

In the other Club semi-final, M. Pagh defeated Divett by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1. It is suggested that the final between. Sullivan and Pagh would be well worth watch- Ing as it is quite certain they will put up a very strong fight for the honour of winning the Champion- ship."

The R.A.S.C. started the game at a very fast pace, and although no gogls were scored in the first half, the play certainly had its exciting moments. Lance Corporal G. V. Paul pushed à pass through the centre, Corporal L. A. G. Sadler trapped the ball, and somewhat unluckily drove. it hard up against the R.E. crossbar. Corporal Waite then turned a centre from Private A. G. Davies just clear of the goal. and a moment later a mistake by Lance-Corporal R. Palmer gave Davies a clear run up to the R.E.

Attention should be given to the revised programme for the coming tennis Championship events:---

To-day: Open Semi-Final Singles H. D. Rumjahn v. F. H. Kwok),

To-morrow: Open Semi-Final Singles (8. A. Rumjahn v. E C. Fincher).

Monday, April 26: Semi-Final Open Doubles (Wong and Luk v. Rumjahns or medios).

At the start of the second half Sergeant H. Galley broke through the centre, and it was only with some difficulty that Campbell saved his goal. The ball rolled out of the goalkeeper's hands and had Galley followed up his shot he might well have given the R.E. the lead. Then in quick succession each side in turn were awarded penalty kicks, which were turred into goals for Doubles. the R.A.B.C. and R.E., respectively by Sadler and Lance-Sergeant R. Elliott.

The R.AS.C., however, came back to the attack with increased deter- mination, and once again Sadler" was unlucky enough to head a cen tre from Davies up against the R.E.
