“STEAMBOAT" COMPANY

MEETING

Another Adverse Year

Reported

Presiding at the annual meeting of the Hong Kong, Canton and Macao Steamboat Company, Ltd., held at the offices of tha Company yesterday, the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo, in his address from the chair, reported a loss of $139,190 which, he explained, was accounted for mainly by the adverse trading conditions for the first half of 1936 coupled with the continued prevalence of smuggling which exacted a heavy toll from the Company's revenue.

Supporting the chairman were Messrs. Ll. Tss-feng, J. 2. Braga, Tung-fan Lo; L. B, Wood (directors) and Mesars. Wei Tat. 3. H. Lo. Kwan Yan-kwong, Hung Tsze-yee and Capt. W. E. Kirby (shareholders), and Mr. H. da Luz (Secretary), --

CHAIRMAN'S SPEECH

Addressing the meeting the

Chairman said:-

Gentlemen:-Before we proceed with the formal business, I would like to say how much the Directors regret that they have to record the death, which occurred on August 14, 1936, of Mr. C. A. de Roza. The late Mr. da Roza was a Director of this Company since 1930; and throughout this period took a deep interest" in the affairs of the Company. The Company sustained a great loss by his un- timely death.

The loss for the year is $139,190.33, which has been trans- ferred to Profit and Loss Account, bringing the debit of that account, after deducting a transfer of $361.145.69 from the Investment Fluctuation Account and the profit on sale of the steamers Lungshan and But An during the year amounting to $39,412.65, to $236,134.97, Subject to your ap- proval..
