Jeff is sponsoring Nottingham lace. He gives a touch of black lace as a big soft bow on a, sallor hat, and matches it with a frills black lace jabot-a piquant fashion revived. He also introduces (or ra- ther revives) mittens of black lace too.
NEW COLOURS Derek Skeffington embroiders evening and day frocks, and uses many
appliqués pockets and heraldic emblems in linen and leather.
He, too, uses lace--in the form of wee handkerchiefs tucked in sashes at night, and in day-time pockets
Hats are shallow here, and he has a peaked cap designed for the Grand National. For spring mil- Winery he has some gay little gros- grain caps...
Matita has wool chiffon scarves and wee blue bells to finish blouse tie-ends.
For gummer he is using a new Hight-weight supple grained material which tallors perfectly. A new colour for Coronation sum- mer is matrix, a deep turquoise.

The first zip of spring in the air has sent everyone scurrying for gay, scintillating accents to brigh-· ten up fur coats and heavy wool- lens. This season there is much ·" patent leather in belts. shoes, Howers (black patent leather violets, even) and handbags.
The last are varied, some big as brief cases, finished with sliding fastenings, others small, barrel- like affairs. and there are metal-" framed handbags, the patent lea- ther gathered into the frame and handles to hang over the art. popular colours.
PRINT BLOUSES Blouse history is being made in Black, red and navy are the most New York this spring, what with the suit fashion which has every- one in its grip, and the craze for odd skirts.
Striped silk crêpe shirts are be ing shown, with man-tailored suits.
Then there are the fussy, frilly organdies, muslina, chlions and laces, designed for the softer, more feminine, sult, with ruffles which stand up around the face in a most becoming manner. And there are the print blouses that turn a. plain skirt into an afternoon dress of originality.
WAYS WITH SASHES- Sashes have become such a fas- hion fad that they are being sold. in the belt departments of stores, often with matching bows for the neckline.
They can be had in prints, vivid Roman or candy stripes, polka
dots, plaids and rich deep solid tones and in every fabric. They dress up the plainest frock, and are particularly nice. under the t- tle bolero fackets which are 80 popular. They are worn tied in a big soft bow and long ends hang- ing to the knee, or the ends drawn ring or clip at the through a waist.

Cotton For
The Evening
We are accustomed to evening" gowns made of satin, chiffon, taffeta, and, occasionally, linen, But this year's debutantes will appear at some of their dances arrayed in cotton, for that is the latest Idea for evening dresses.
When one comes to think of it cotton is a most sensible material for the dance frock, being moder- ately priced, easy to launder, and gay in colouring.
SIMPLE BUT DAINTY A dress show in London-re- cently was devoted to a dis- play of these cottori evening gowns, and having studied the models for a few minutes" one could not wonder at the ordering their favourites: thusiasm with which the girls were

Think of finest white muslin. checked with thin red lines, the checks, about an inch square. Imagine it made up into an Em- pire frock, high-waisted, with a small gathered bodice, a long, ful skirt, tiny puff sleeves, and a sash of red taffeta tied in a bunchy now at one side. A simple enough little dress, but of such daintiness that it was being ordered by half a dozen girls each of whom chose her own colour scheme. One wanted self-colour checks instead of red, one asked for blue, another for green, another for black- which probably would prove the smartest of all.
There were dresses, too, of print- ed cotton with dark backgrounds as well as light, and some of the marvellously realistic looking flow- designs show up with better affect er studies taken for many of the against them than they would against white. Belge too, is a good ground colour,
The New Millinery
Coloured braids laced in and out, and about one-quarter inch in width, made in a Breton sailor- shape of navy, had the curved brim lined with strands of navy and yellow chenille.
Still more original was a tiny sailor composed of narrow white pieces of cotton tape. The edge of the brim was made of black straw ciré and a black, shiping ribbon was placed round the small crown. Shades of the past were recalled in the very latest in the millinery. world. This was a real poke-shovel bonnet, carried out in a variety of feathery charm. Ostrich tips in blue filled the long crown. It fitted, the head, poked right forward and then. tited back a little, and was secured by bonnet strings of blue chidon.
Another amusing specimen of headgear for spring was a soup- plate shape with a flat topall smothered in coloured wallflowers. A tiny brim of coarse brown, shin- ing straw tilted, forward, perched on a double bandeau, Ead a cache peigne of the same flowers with a touch of fuchsia-coloured velvet <ribbon."
