JOSEF LAMPKIN TO
PLAY HERE
Famous Violin Virtuoso's Impressions Of The East
Josef Lampkin, the brilliant young violin virtuoso, has arrived here and is staying at the Peninsula Hotel,
Though he has twice made a concert tour of the Far East, this is the first visit to Hong Kong and he seems much impressed with the beauty of the place. His last-concert" was given about two weeks ago in Nanking, where he was the guest of the Ameri- can Ambassador and Mrs. Nelson Johnson, and "where he played at a concert which was attended by the Foreign Ministers, and the entire Diplomatic Body of that elty. When in Japan he play- ed before. Prince Chichiby and members of the Royal Family, and. in Shanghai he gave, (by special invitation) a Recital at the Ly- ceum Theatre, afterwards appearing with phenomenal success at Pelping and Tientsin.
Mr. Lampkin told our repro- sentative in an interview that he is very deeply impressed by the increasing interest taken in West- ern music, by the people of the Far East, and feels that since they already have a musical scale of their own, with a different fonal effect, he feels that something.new and great will result from this musical fusion of the East and the West
