RUBBER MEETING
Profit More Than Doubled Last Year
The improved price of rubber has resulted in the profits of the Shanghai Beramban Rubber Es- tates. Ltd., being more than doubled, according to the chair man's report presented at the an- nual meeting of the company, held at 91 Canton Road, states the "North China Daily News." Mr. C. F. Shackleton presided, sup- ported by Mr. H. Kadoorie and Mr. M. Speelman, and shares repre- sented by, the attendance were
78,200,
:
In his speech. the chairman said:
The result of the year's working has been a profit of $38,342.89 as compared with a profit for the previous year of $17.944.34. This Increase, notwithstanding the crop being 58,080 lb. smaller, is mainly due to the improved price realised for the rubber, but also to a re- duction in the estate expenditure of 81.$6.109.64 The main items which contributed to this, decrease general charges which were St.$1.- 095.78 lower as upkeep buildings. recruiting and agency expenses all showed reductions.
The cost of the upkeep of the producing area was St.$128.00 greater as St$1,200.00 was expend- ed on manuring, Partly on ac- count of the smaller crop the cost of tapping and manufacture was down by St.$3,430.00, but rotational tapping also contributed as the the yield per täpper was higher with a resultant decrease in the cost per pound. Duty also showed a decrease of St.$1,050.00.||
The Shanghai office expenses showed a decrease of $2,125.00 as the general managers and direc- tors agreed to accept a reduction in their fees.
