Admiralty Press Officer

Commander E. P. Vivian will relinquish to-day the charge of the Press Section at the Admiralty in order to take up the post of Assistant Starter to the Jockey Club. His successor is Commander C. A. H. Brooking, who has been serving in the Inteligence Division for the past six months.

Commander Vivian, who entered Osborne as a cadet in May. 1904, spent the whole of his service, until joining the Admiralty in 1935, at sea, nearly, all in des- troyers. He received his first com- mand, the destroyer Usk, early in 1917, and from then until January, 1932, or nearly 15 years, he was continuously in command, and was mentioned in dispatches for War service. His last sea service WILS 1.5 executive officer of H. M. S. Cairo, flagship of the Home Fleet flotillas, and in the absence of the Commodore (D) through sickness he was in command of the Cairo for the spring cruise to the West Indies in 1935. A keen horseman, he has served on the committee of the RN. Polo Association and has been for some years a member of the RN. Hunt Club. He has play- ed polo for the Navy in London, Malta, and Gibraltar, and has won both Lord Beatty's and 'Sir V Warrender's polas-to-point cups. His genial personality will be miss- ed by many friends whom he has made among members of the

THE CORONATION REVIEW All available ships of the Home Fleet are to leave their parts on April 27 to rejoin the flag of Ad- -miral Bir Roger. Backhouse in H.M.S. Nelson and to prepare for the Coronation Näval Review on May 20. All ships which are re- turning from the Mediterranean to

take part in the Review (except H.MS. Cyclops) are to assemble at Gibraltar on May 7 and will leave for Spithead next day.

LAUNCHES OF SLOOPS HMS. Gleaner, building by Wm. Gray

and Co. Limited, West Hartlepool, will be launched. In April, and H.MS. Bittern, building by J. S. White and Co., Limited, East Cowes, 'In June. The Gleaner, a minesweeper, will be fitted for surveying duties and is expected to replace the Beaufort, which was placed on the sale list in January. The Bittern is being fitted as an escort vessel (formerly called con- voy gloop) and should be com- pleted in Novelaber next.

Engineer Commander A Baker, was placed on the retired Hist recently with the rank of Engineer Captain. He has had 22 years commissioned service, hav- ing been promoted to mate. (E) on April 1, 1915, and during the War served in HM8. St. Vincent in the 1st Battle Squadron, Grand Fleet Since his promotion to engineer commander in December, 1928, he has been engineer oficer of the cruisers Caledon, Vindictive, and Dauntless in the Mediterranean and home waters.

Through cargo for ports. be yond the Colony amounted to 11,064 tons, of which 8,982 tons were carried by British steamers, Astatic deck passengers entering the Colony during the twenty-four hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday were 1,250, of which 1.153 were from British steamers.
