The bolero is treated in very much the same style to-day as The blouse, corsage and skirt beneath are now so slim a founda- tion that the bolero effects with or without sleeves are more likely to please. Bolero jacketa. aasist in giving brightness for night-time, because sequins or all sorts of em- broideries are employed in so many of these over-jackets,
Cinema sults of the tailored type in severe black broadcloth will well carry a cut-away jacket of-all shaded sequins with jet plaques. A simple grey. mousseline dinner- dress may alter its actual style by the addition of a bolero of scarlet floral petals, sewn on to grey net with silver sequins For the old black-jetted zouave, either worked on to lace or velvet as the newest bolero it "tops" the latest version of black-jetted elegance in jewels.
Buttons are so varied that one feels no doubt of a definite trade revival.
And Summer
The Vionnet collection of spring and summer fashions is specially ikeable fol the colours and textures of the materials that are ased. Nowhere In Paris are there such beautiful prints in chiffon and silk
Evening dresses in printed mus- ins are exquisite. The colours are light and gay. For wearing by day Vionnet makes dresses with fackets. ip two colours, clearly chosen to make a strong contrast. She trims plain materials with tartans, puts a brown and yellow check skirt and loose jacket with a black and yellow blouse, a purple coat goes over a green dress, white dresses are put uider dark capes. Yellow goes with beige, with brown, with black; check coats are worn over plain dresses. The shoulder line Ls wide, but soft: A Vionnet sleeve is usually an enigma to the uninitiated. The way it is cut.
One of our designers places the simple bone buttons' in, different colours down a tailored jumper. He also makes good use of squared draped, set in, is not to be dis- mother-of-pearl and interesting china-ornamented affairs.
Cut steel, old marquisette, dainty. modern paste, or ancient 18th- century Waistcoat examples, wooden, acorns, leather and kid knobs, and braided rounds, are to be found in the button selections.
A scarlet Eton jacket fastens with cords and buttons of scarlet and black braid. Tiny, rounded pearls and the skirt button will be. used as decoration in the new coloured cottons and linen frocks for beach and river. "
Feather boas were used in variety as trimming and borders last sea- son. Spring will see then fully dis- late porting themselves in the Victorian way. The newest method is to have the boa omposed of many-coloured ostrici. fronds.

Bamboo, "whangee, (a knobbly cane) and whampoa (beadle cane) handles will be
the smartest umbrellas this year.
The Coronation brollic has a pagoda top 2nd is mushroom shaped,
Blue will be the most popular shade, but green and brown will run it close.
There are sunshades of plaid, already proofed so that they will not spoll in the rain.
Crystal handles have rainbow colours inside them. Plaited straw and string handles coloured to match the cover of the umbrella are also going to be fashionable. and for those tall people who like An umbrella to ""walk with," there are tall straight handles in polish; ed wood.
covered at a glance. Little after- noon dresses are made in plissé lace, with basque bodices of lace and organza. The basques stand out from the waist with the stiff- ness of a crinoline. A good many capes are worn.
All the skirts are full at the hem line and the hips are plain büt
unrepressed. Vionnet has never liked the unnatural slim- ness of recent years. For the slim, undeveloped girl she makes dresses which are right for her years: for a young woman makes dresses which sult her. Every dress falle full and soft from the waist, never thickening the figure, but giving it the appear- ance of free grace.

NEW SPRING HATS
Hats for the spring and summer show signs of reverting to favour- ite notions of the past such as shallow crowns with
plentiful trimmings; transparent crowns, and little bonnet, shapes, some- times with strings. Bangkok, pedal and Leghorn straws are returning: there are also new straws. Hats like those of the nineties have vells floating be- hind; others have turban mounts under the brims and the swathing is brought down and round the neck like a scarf.
All kinds of hats are made of petersham, or grosgrain, which is a good material for shallow sailor hats with stiffened brims; in dark shades it is for town, in pastel colours for cruising. There
are wide brimmed Hats with crowns
of petersham and brims of felt or straw. In this way colour con- trasts are obtained, as when an emerald green petersham, crown goes with a wide brim of black "split" straw and a cluster of flowers of yet another colour. Halo ponnet shapes of petersham make agreeable between-season hats for town; there are also sombrero shapes, Mephisto shapes, and peak-cornered caps.
The poeumatic brim, either of petersnam" or straw, is a novelty; it is deeply rolled. Sailor shapes. vary from those like the small hats of Nelson's sailors with pigtail Haps to halo shapes of paper panama with a turban swathing of coloured georgette under the brim. The "boater" of the nine- ties, in coarse shiny straw, is also seen, and there is the Breton with a moderate brim and a forward Lilt given by an adjustable ribbon bandeau. Some bandeaux are hollow and tie in a bow under a high hair dressing. Baku and its finer form shantung baku are still favourite straws for 1ghter hats; as the summer advances tulle and face hata, and many stiffened transparencies, laden with flowers, will appear. Among Lower taim- minge may be noticed forget-me- nots between the brims of a dou- ble brimmed hat, On the centre edge of a small, low-crowned straw bomburg, a cluster of lily of the valley is laid Cornflowers are massed with an occasional plnk rose petal to make small bonnet- like hate; and tiny flowers, outline transparent black lace baby bon- nets with strings. Bright velvet flowers are freely put on wide brimmed hats, and mandarin hats and coolle hats are unexpectedly trimmed with flower clusters of many colourà. Colour is strong in trimmings, and in swathed 'drap-
ings..
A hat that looks, like a doll's hat has been made of Leghorn; the Horal topknot of the evening translated, as it were, into day- time, it needs only ribbon strings to reproduce the young matron's bonnet of the late Victorian era. Another revival is the modified, tricorne of straw, which was much' liked some years ago.
