Nanking, March 15. Even If the reports of com- promise between the Chinese Com- munist Party and the National Government are true,
It is un- necessary to attach too much im portance to the matter at present the Japanese Ambassador, Mr. Shigeru Kawagoe, told Japanese correspondents to-day.

Regarding the Colony itself) the Bishop said that prosperous rural community in Kwangtung would mean a properous com- munity in Hong Kong as so many people drifted hither from bank- rupt famules of villages in Kwang- tung..
He further emphasised the pro- gress of the Talpo Rural Orphan- age which was organised some 18 months ago with Mr. Le! Shlu Ying, who had undergone many hardships and difficulties when the school was first set up in the New Territories.

Touching
the upon Home and Orphanage, the speaker said that there was a very great need that destitute children should be trained to go back to the coun- try village, and that the future of the countryside depends in the end on the quality of the country wo- men.
"It is not the policy of the V.DM.A. 25 such to support par- the ticular Institutions," said Bishop. "We shall not, therefore, make any regular contributions from the Association to the Or- phanage at Taipo, but I do hope that individual members of the Association, schools, business houses, etc. will be willing to make themselves responsible for the support of one child, whose cost. including salaries of staff, is about $100 per annum."
Before closing. the chairman thanked Mr. Chau Man-chi for the $3,000 which enabled the Associa- tion to buy the site for the Or phanage at Taipo and Mrs. Kiam for the property and cloth- ing which she donated to the School, Messrs. J. Bentley of the Union Insurance Co. and Cheung Wing Kue who had done so much for the Home.
In conclusion the Bishop made an appeal stressing the need of increase of members whose yearly subscription of $3 each would be a great help to the Association.
"We do not ask members to say that they agree entirely with the whole missionary policy of the Church, but we do ask.every Chris- tlan to take a share in the work of charity to which we are com- mitted in the name of Christ.”
Mr. P. S. Cassidy also spoke. He thanked the Bishop on behalf of the members for the magnifcient FOR KWANGTUNG | Work done during the past year, and said that an increase in the membership of the V.D.MA. was indeed a need.
