Over 400 Tourists To Invade Colony
For the sixth successive year the giant Canadian Pacific Ener Empress of Britain is due here, bringing some 423 passen- gers on a cruise around the world, which commenced at New York on January 9, and will end at that port on May 14, and on May 22, at Cherbourg and Southampton for the British and Continental, passengers. Last year, the ship took the South Afri- can route but, this time, followed her usual schedule through the Mediterranean,
The Empress of Britain is 42.350 tons cross register, with a length of 758 feet and a breadth of 97 feat 6 inches. She has engines that can develop 64,000 shaft horse power and has tra- velled at a speed of 256 knots in trials. She has 26,000 feet of promenade deck-almost equal to the fairway golf course-and her fannels are so large that two London dou- of an average ble-decker busses could drive through them together. Her masts originally towered 208 feet above the load water line but this year they have been reduced by two feet to ensure clear entry under the new Golden Gate Bridge at San Francisco.

a family of seamen his great-grandfather, grandfather, father, as well as countless uncles and grand uncles, have been "down to the sea in ships" and to complete the record his mother also went to sen when a girl.
