Hong Kong, March 5. Silver prices were substantially higher yesterday, to the exterit of 11/18 for Ready and 3/4 for For- ward, the quotations being 21 1/8 and 21 respectively. Silver advices reported India as having, bought. Speculators sold on the rise. The market closed steady. After the official fixing the tone appeared easier and business was done at 1/4 under the fixed rates. India and America sold. American BIL- ver was quoted at 45 1/4 for Spot. The London-New York cross- rate was quoted at 488.48. New York-London was kuoted at 488 11/32.

The Sterling market was quiet but steady. The U.8. Dollar mar- ket appeared a shade easier owing to a little demand.
STERLING
A small business was done at 1/2 15/18 for near" delivery. There were sellers at 1/2 29/32 March- August, buyers at 1/2 15/16 for any delivery.
U.S. DOLLARS Business was done at 30 3/8 for March delivery. The market clos- ed at 1 pm. with small sellers at 30 3/8 March and 30 5/16 April- June. buyers at 30 7/15 March and 30 3/8 April-June..
