With reference to your conten- tion that "while the pacifist is not merely prepared to turn his cheek to the smiter, he is even unwilling to intervene in any circumstances to prevent other cheeks being smitten." I believe that you have stretched the point somewhat. Is one to assume, from your line of argument, that intervention in the interests of peace must always take the form of armed force and that peaceful Christian means will never prevall?
I do not think that your view that the pacifist "must. condemn his own country to a mean and selfish policy of isolation, ignoring

that one must adopt an mean attitude of aloofness and abstain from spreading the gospel of peace and goodwill to all men.
Your allegation that pacifist. agitation has increased and is still increasing the danger of war certainly calls for an explanation. It would be most interesting to hear the grounds on which you base this sweeping accusation, and to be enlightened as to what glorious triumphs war has accom- plished in the cause of peace.

since Britain embarked upon her re-armament programme. I do not see anything in this change of Bastos, Amoy and Foochow attitude to wax enthusiastic about. Bhanghai Frankly, the sign is most ominous
| and should not lead us into a false sense of security, but should be re- garded as a lull before the storm of war breaks in all its fury.
Finally, I would quote Mr. Lloyd George, formerly Prime Minister of Great Britain, who, in a speech delivered at Manchester, is re- ported to have stated, inter alla:
""The nations of the world are heading straight for war, not be- cause they want it, but because no one has the courage to stop the runaway horse and chariot of war. Unless the nations are prepared soon to accept wholeheartedly the peaceable means of settling dis- putes, nothing will save the world from calamities of a more terrible
war than has ever been seen. The Churches must save the world from WAT and bring peace to all nations."
