NEWS
A Diesel-operated power shovel, with a cubic yard capacity dip- per, has been ordered by the Phil- Ippine Iron Mines from the Bucy- rus-Erie Company of South. Mil- waukee, Wisconsin, through the Manila Machinery Supply and Equipment Company.
This shovel, which will be the second of its type to be used in mining in the Philippines, will be able to handle from 60 to 75 cubic It was shipped yards per hour. on. February 20 from New York, and is expected to arrive around the end of March..
Camarines pine Iron Mines in Norte have been carried on by hand to date. The use of the new shovel is expected to add consider- ably to the monthly capacity of the plant.
The new shovel is mounted on a tractor base. It weighs 16 tons, travels under its own power at 11 miles per hour, and can elimb steep grades easily.
Sam G. Welz, representative of Bucyrus-Erie who is now in the Philippines, worked with officials of Philippine Iron Mines and of Manila Machinery in planning for.
