Huge Heroin Seizure
Described
The story behind the arrest of a Japanese, named K. Itaba shi, aged 40, on charges of importing and possession of 724 ounces of diacety morphins, commonly known as herol, was revealed by Mr. M. J. Abbott, Assistant Crown Solicitor, before Mr. K. Keen at the Central Magistracy yesterday afternoon.

Canton and Macao search the Steamboat wharf, to passengers and their baggage, Mr. Ward went to the port aide of the ship and saw the defendant op- poalte to the compradore's cabin with his luggage. Defendant, when asked, replied in English that the luggage was his.

RO. Warden opened one of the boxes of nuts and found that it had false bottom and contained a box of white powder. He sent for R.O. Ward who immediately plac- ed the defendant under arrest and told him hot to say anything.
They proceeded to the wharf of- fice where Mr. Ward was joined by Mr. Watt Pak U, interpreter. of the Imports and Exports office. Mr. Ward started to dial on the tele- phone with the intention of speak- ing to Chief Preventive Officer

A daring robbery in the heart of the city on October 16 last, was recalled at the Central Magistracy yesterday when Fu Shiu, 29, coolle, appeared before Mr. Kenneth Keen and was sentenced to five months' hard labour on a charge of aiding and abetting in the theft of $2,500 from Yu Wai-ting, accountant of the Foo Lung building contractors, Mr. F. L. Zimmern appeared for the defence
Det-Sub-Inspector M. J. Flattery said that it was pay day and the complainant went to the Bank, of China where he cashed a cheque for $2,500. On his return he had reached the junction of D'Agullar Street and Stanley Street when two men came up and snatched the money from his left hand The money was wrapped in a hand- kerchief. The complainant had a paper lantern pulled over his head and face and was thus unable to see temporarily. The defendant was arrested on information. None of the money was recovered.

The heroin was examined by Mr. H.A. Taylor, Government Monopoly Analyst, and Mr. Abbott added that there was enough heroin mixture to make 18,100,000 pills. One ounce of heroin would make 25.000 to" 30.000 pills.
Evidence was called after which the defendant was committed for trial at the next Criminal Sessions.

public car No. 55, was brought be fore Mr. Q. A. A. Macfadyen at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday afternoon charged with driving without due care and caution, and driving in a manner dangerous to the public, having regard to all the circumstances of the case.
The Assistant Actorney general. Mr. E. H. Williams was for the O. F. C. prosecution, while Mr. Marton appeared on behalf of de- fendant. Mr. F. Loseby held a watching brief for the relatives of the deceased.
Chan Wai, a road constructor foreman, who was riding a bicycle near the scene of the tragedy, was the Arst witness called. He told the Court that he was about two feet past the other end of the bridge when the accident happen. He suddenly heard a noise ed. and a piece of iron flew past him. The next witress was Li Mum lam, the chauffeur of Dr. Kwan's
car.
He said that Pun's car-number 55, overtook his when he had just crossed a bridge which was about 360 feet before the second bridge where the tragedy took place.

Lam Man, who 'pleaded that ne was compelled to snatch a lady's handbag because he had no money to buy milk for his baby when he was brought before Mr. Macfadyen on Saturday, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment and eight strokes of the cane by Mr. Q. A. A. Macfadyen at the Kow- loon Magistracy yesterday.
His Worship told defendant that if it was really needed, the au- thorities would provide the baby. with milk during the term of his imprisonment.
