"Mysterious" Mr. Leff Leaves Hong Kong

(Continued from Page 1)

I replied that it was merely a rumour, whereupon he said, "Well I've been pestered everywhere I go and reporters always ask the same question you did. No, I'm not Cor- tez. I'm from New York, and I'm travelling around the world for my health,"

Not having been hitherto con- fronted with personages travelling incognito, I was at a loss as to what to say, until Mr. Leff kindly suggested going up to his room to prove that he was not the famous star.

“WHICH IS WHICH?"

I was shown clippings from every port that Mr. Leff had visit- ed, and they were all the same in that there were two photographs

of Ricardo Cortez and Mr. Left side by side. The caption asked, "Which is which?**

However, I was not satisfied, and made an appointment for the fol- lowing day. Mr. Ler's features,

the actor's, and I was not con- vinced.

At tea the following day, I was informed that he was, connected with Warner Brothers in an ex- ecutive position, which further that he strengthened the bellef was here Incognito.

I saw him again last night, but all that he would talk about was the charm of Hong Kong.

HONG KONG SHOULD RE ADVERTISED

"Why don't you people advertise this place more?" he asked. "Everyone told me that Shanghal was the Faris of the Far East, but there was no advertising about the beauties of Hong Kong: Why I was out at Repulse Bay yesterday and was like a summer's day at home. Apart from the fact that I was stared at in all public places -we'd only sneak glances at others at home-I found courtesy every- where."

It

"This is a wonderful place." he continued, "and I like it just as much as I did the Riviera and Cannes."

"But," I said, "Hong Kong is ad- vertised as the Riviera of the Orient!"

"That may be so locally," replied Mr. Le, "but you don't advertise It all over the world Advertising plays a big part in getting trade." "WHERE'S YOUR WIFE?"

We veered the conversation back to Hollywood. "Where is your wife, Mr. Left? I asked.

"I'm not married." he replied. I was stumped again, because Cortez is married to a social re- gisterite in California..

"You

sure have a swell place here," he said again, "and I wish I had planned to remain longer. I'll have to go through the same denials when I arrive in Manila. I hang a sign outside my door, I'm not Ricardo Cortez. No re- porters!' that is if I can get a room there."

He concluded by asking, "Don't you believe that I'm just plain Mr. M. Left of New York?"

I replied that I wasn't sure. Had Ricardo Cortez been, in the Colony for a week without being found out? That's the enigma.

SLEEPERS TORN

It is further learned that number of s.eepers were torn.

The derailment caused the 'main through line to be blocked with the nine remaining coaches.

The Canton-Kowloon express at 1.10 p.m. which left Canton reached as far as Tong Tau Ha but was unable to continue its Journey owing to the blockade.

It is understood that the speed of the derailed train on entering Tong Tau Ha station was not more than 15 miles per hour as it was to stop in order to drawing up allow the down train to pass.

PASSENGERS TRANSFERRED Passengers on the 1.10 p.m. train from Canton were transferred to the nine remaining coaches and a relief engine was sent from Shum Chun. By this means they were able to complete their journey and the train arrived at the Kowloon Railway Station shortly before 8.30 p.m., two hours late.

the derailed

Passengers from train were Ukewise transferred to the down tra'n which returned to Canten.

In the meantime, the Station Master at Tong Tau Ha sent a message to the Chinese Section asking for a breakdown wagon to te sent to the scene of the mishap. Apparently the task was too big for the wagon, to cope with, for at 6.25 p.m. the Kowloon Railway received 1 message to Station despatch the British Section break down train, which, however, had already got up steam in readiness for an emergency,

The breakdown train, left Kow- loon at 6.45 p.m. for Tong Tau Ha. The work of removing the de-. pro~ railed engine and coach is ceeding apace and it is probable that the blockade will be removed by this morning.

The "Yellow Dragon"

Queen's College Magazine

Those responsible for the editing of the Queen's College magazine, the "Yellow Dragon," are to be most heartily congratulated on one of the best school journals which we have ever perused. It is, conspicuous for the gratifying num- ber of original articles contributed by present and former pupils, all of whom bring to their ventures into Journalism a freshness of ex- pression and optimism of outlook which is indeed a joy to read.

If the sentiments so adroitly ex- pressed in the Editorial reflect the spirit of the students of this great educational Institution, then the community will be well served by those who, early in life, Kave learned to appreciate the potent principle, namely, that there can never be true service without sacri, Ace. . This editorial exhorts the boys of Queen's Collere to practice

the virines set forth in the New Life Movement-virtues which, if practiced by the bulk of the peo- ple, could raise China to pre- eminence amongst the nations, of the world.

DR. SUN YAT-SEN Of great historical interest and national significance is the record contained in this excellent pub-¦ lication of the late Dr. Sun Yat- sen when he attended Queen's College. It is recalled that this immortal's school name was "Tai Tseung," which literally translated means, "having the appearance of an Emperor" or "like an Emperor." Surely the name was very aptly chosen, and, as the Editors remark, Parents might do well to notice this; perhaps giving a boy an am- bitious name does really stimulate Certainly him to live up to it."
