E. Richardson and W., H. Colledge get going with the bat, not forgetting A. E Perry.

So much for the intermediate ine. Now we come to the backs. Miss E. M. Gray, who represented Hong Kong in the past two years, is, I am confident, a certainty for the position of sight back. For her partner the choice probably itea be- tween Miss Joan Smalley and Miss Anne Fowler, both of whom are very good. Miss Fowler did. spien- did work against Shanghai last year. The Indians will be at home to the Army and a good match should result. I feel that the latter will just about do it as the Indians have not the attack that they used to before Frank Pereira was forced to retire from the game for health reasons. THE JUNIORS

So far as the Junior Division teams are concerned, the holders. Indian R.C. visit the Army "C" and the result should be very open. I rather think the Army will win Craigengower look good enough for the Navy while the Club will prob- ably share the spoils with the Army "A" If Harry Westlake gets going with the bat, the Kowloon bowlers will have an anxious time against Civil Service as this player scores very rapidly and it will not do at all to let him stay in too long. On the whole, however, the KC.C. should win." Of the two remaining matches, the Army "B" and Police

should beat Club de Recreio and University respectively.

Hockey Notes

(BY “R.ILB") Like all other sports in the Colony, hockey too has its festival season I, of course, refer to the forthcoming visit of the Shanghai Ladles' hockey team during the Chinese New Year holidays early next month. The Hong Kong ladies have already held trials in preparation for the big match and much talent has been revealed which the selectors will have to carefully consider. Let us sincere ly hope that the clerk of the wea ther will be much kinder this year than he has been during the past two years, that is, on the day of the Interport match.

I can vividly recall the first ladies' Interport match played on the HKFC. ground in February, 1835. The player battled through

FAREWELL GAME

The East Lancs, will play their last Hong Kong Football Associa- tion Amateur League match-ver- sus South China (“A”-to-morrow at Sookunpoo,- kick-off at 4 pm. For the position of goalkeeper This will be a "farewell match" for there are Mrs. Lunson, Mis. Rose, ❘ the East Lancs. who are leaving Ms F. Best and Mrs. Stephena, Hong Kong on Tuesday. Here, The first named is probably the again, the South China eleven best of the four though Mrs, have not shown their true formi in Stephens did rather well in a trial recent games but an improvement last week.

of their present standard of play will keep them in position among the first four in the League.

Then there are the forwards. It is a great pity that the services of the Interporter, Miss Sybil Dalziel, who is shortly to be married, will not be available. She would, I feel sure, have been a certainty.

There can be no doubt as to the position of inside-right being filled by Miss Marie Smith who played for Hong Kong both in 1935 and 1936.

RIGHT WING CHOICE

As to the right wing berth both Miss Olive Dalziel and Miss F. Marsh are worthy of serious con- sideration, although I would select the former. The latter may be speedler but her stick work and passing lacks the finish of Miss Dal- ziel.

Mrs. Donald, of the HKLAC., seems to be a certain choice for She is fast and centre-forward.

has good stick work.

Miss Phyllis Gittins, of the Saints, who lead the attack against Shang- hat last year at the Canidrome. and scored the only goal of the match, is a probable choice for inde-left.

The left wing berth, the most awkward position in the team from the players' point of view, will be Miss Marjorie dimcult to fill. Westcott played against Shanghai last year in this position and though she was not much in the picture in the Interport match she played well against the Rest and

To return to the match next month. There is every indication of another thrilling match. Shang- hal will come down here set whole- heartedly to wrest the White Shield from the Colony team,

CENTRE-HALF PROBLEM

In discussing the prospects of the Hong Kong team, which has not been selected as yet and will not be picked until a few weeks later, I am of the opinion that one of the main problems will be to find ́s successor to Miss Marian-Bryson, one of the finest centre-half backs ever to play here, and who is now In England. Many will recall Miss Bryson's trolan-like displays. She played at left-half against Shang- hal here and was the pivot last year and she played a grand gaine.

The following is the Interport team that I would select:-

Mrs. Lanson; Miss E. M. Gray,

· Miss J. Småley:

Miss J.Wong, Miss B. Pope, Miss L Woolley; Miss O. Dalztet, Miss M. Smith, Mrs. Donald, A Miss P. Gittis. Mine M. Westcott.

(BY JAY MARTIN)

Several Bentor Division matches are slated for play, this week-end, Two names come to mind: Miss two of which should prove to be. Miss Pope is fully will bring about important changes

Although the Royal Navy has been somewhat weakened by the departure of the Hermes, they are still able to field a fairly strong team and in view of their past showings it would not be at all optimistic to opine that they will come of victors in their encounter with the Club. The latter has had 1 run of bad luck since the sea- son started but they have been making tremendous efforts to re- cover their strides and will no doubt give the Navy a good fight.
