GREAT BRITAIN TURNS TO CONSCRIPTION?

May Come Early In The New Year

FIGHTING FORCES BELOW

STRENGTH

Conscription in Britain is bound to come unless the first few months of '1937 show an all-round increase in recruiting. That, at any rate, is the opinion of those closely in touch with the situation. With all branches of the Fighting Services (with the possible exception of the R.A.F.) gravely under peace-time strength in an arming world, the Government are being forced 'towards this step.

A growing number of MPs are in favour of it, and it is pràctically certain that experts have already been at work-on drafting a Bill. Mr. Frederick Montague, M.P. far West Islington and Under-Secretary for Alr in the Socialist Government, said in a recent speech:

"It is stated in responsible quarters that a Bill for compal- sory enlistment has been drafted, and is ready for presentation at an appropriate moment." A writer renerally retarded as "In the know." says:-"I now hear on excellent authority that Hnishing touches are being put to Conscription Bill which covers all the male population...........'
