HOCKEY GAME TIED
Triangular
Tournament.
Encounter
In their Triangular Tournament encounter, at the Marina. ground yesterday, the Army held the Navy to a draw, both teams sharing two goals. The game was played at a fast pace" throughout and the final score was a fair indication of the game.
The Army took the offensive from the start and dominated ex- changes during this period. Early in the game, Patab, the Army left- winger, who is also a newcomer to local hockey, tested. Garwood, the Navy, custodian with a hard shot which, the latter confidently clear- ed. Play then veered to the other end, but the Navy forwards lacked cohesion in their movements and were easily held in check by the Army defence.
At this stage the Army-forwards. with thrustful attacks gave the op- posing defence a worrying time, and the reason for their not re- gistering at least two goals in the first half was entirely due to their dilly-dallying methods when favourably placed.
The second half was barely ten minutes old when the Army nétiéd through Stapleton (centre half from a short corner. This reversal, Instead of disheartening the Navy, seemed to wake them up from their early, lethargy, so much so that they dominated, the exchanges for the remainder of the game.
With another fifteen minutes to go, the Navy drew level with the Army when Wright, with Howlett unsighted, scored during a melee in front of the Army's goal-mouth
Gaining incentive from this goal, the Navy forwards came in- to their own and were seen in several good movements which would have culminated in them netting but for the sterling work of Boxcock, right back, and the able support of Kishin Singh, the left back.
The final whistle brought an entertaining game to a close with the honours evenly divided.
