The text of the new King's. speech to the Accession Council
reads:
*I meet you 'to-day in circum- stances which are without parallel in the history of our country.
Now that the duties of sover- elinty have fallen on me, I declare to you my adherence to the strict 'principles of constitutional govern- ment and my resolve to work be- fore all else for the welfare of the British Commonwealth of Nations. "With my wife as helpmeet by my side, I take up the heavy task which lies before me In It I look for the support of all my peoples.

LOYALTY AND HOMAGE
In the historic Chamber of the Legislative Council on Saturday afternoon. His Excell:ncy the Governor, Sir Andrew. Caldecott. delivered a fervent speech, in the presence of a tuli and colourtul gathering of Legislative Coun- cillors and high Colony dignitaries seated among the invited specta- tors.
The Legislative Council assem- bled at this extraordinary session to pass a resolution of loyalty and homage to His Most Gracious Ma- jesty King George the Sixth.
Speaking in deeply emotional terms; His Excellency, in the course of his speech, said that the storm had now passed. leaving behind it, alas, a sad wreckage of hopes and the cruel damage of dis- appointment. ---
"But, thank God" remarked str Andrew, with telling emphasis "the House or Windsor stands, high, solid, and unshaken, found- ed as it is not on any shifting sands of sentiment but on the firm bedrock of an Empire's great devotion."
Shortly before 215 pm, those who had been invited by the Governor to associate themselves with the issue of the Proclamation met in the Legislative Council Chamber to utax their signatures, and at 2.30 p.m. the Legislative "Council assembled.
