MORE PAY FOR JUDGES
£35,000 Increases
"Salaries of county court judges and metropolitan magistrates" are to be increased, by a total of £35.- 000 a year under a bill to be in- troduced by the Government, states the "Daily Telegraph."
A memorandum explaining the financial resolution submitted by the Government, states that the statutory salaries will be raised as
follows:
County Court Judges - From £1,650 to £2,000.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate.— From £1,953 to £2,300,

Inspector Elston said that the defendant had been a police guard for 5 years but he was unsatis- factory, for he drank a lot. He was also in the police force for some time and his record was good."
His Worship said that attacking a person with a chopper was a serious matter and it was lucky the defendant was not up for murder.

Li Kwong, earth "coolie. brought before Mr. E. Himsworth, at the Kowloon Magistracy on Saturday for wounding Tse Fuk with a chopper at Prince Edward Road near Nullah Road on Novem- ber 26.
Inspector A. H. Elston sald that the accused demanded $10 from the complainant, which he refused to give so the accused lay in wait for him. The defendant attacked the complainant with a "chopper inflicting three wounds in the back. Sergeant Weare arrested the defendant.
Six months' imprisonment was imposed on the accused.
ASSAULT ALLEGED
Four men appeared before Mr. E. Hmsworth at the Kowloon Ma- gistracy on Saturday charged with Assaulting Mo Yan, 31, a stone cut- ter, on November 26
They were: Wong Kam 23, Chung Sang, 38, Young. Sze, 27, and Lei Fook, 20, all of whom are unemployed stone culters.
Detective Sergeant MacPerson said that the complainant was still In hospital, and asked for a re- mand til Monday which was granted.
Bail was fixed at $50. -
