Mr. Samuel Storey, M.P., speak- ing at a meeting of the Newspaper Society in London recently, said that they must fight any attempt to shackle or suppress the Press, says the "Times."

He, added, however, that if they believed a free Press was essential to a modern democratic State, they must exercise their freedom with a full sense of their respon- sibilities and their privileges, do- ing nothing which could be con- strued as cence."

GOLD WATCH LEFT TO

DUKE OF KENT

A bequest to the Duke of Kent is contained in the will of Mr. Henry George Tapey Siddons. of Little Woodcote, Weston-road Bath, a retired Indian educational officer, and a descendant of Sarah Biddons, the actress.

Mr. Biddons died on Beptember 18, aged 84, leaving £17,389 (net personalty £16.888).

The will reads:

"I trust that as I have no heir to leave it to, his Royal Highness Prince George, Duke of Kent, will be graciously pleased to accept the gold repeater watch given by his Majesty King George IV. to his godson, my grandfather, George Biddons, of the Bengal Civil Service. From Royalty it came, "to Royalty it should re-

turn."

The manner in which some newspapers were abusing the free- dom born of the realisation that matrimonial cases before a police court did not come under the pro- visions of the Judicial Proceedings Act was calculated to stimulate.
