Quiet and Subdued markets have been the order this past week and the post Settlement activity anticipated last week has not yet materialised. Local stocks appear to still be affected by the political situation in North China and pending more reassuring news.

buyers are timid and reluctant to add to their commitments. There is no evident weakness, but

general disinclination to deul, in & stupor!

The volume of business trans acted on the Manila Stočk“ EX- change has dwindled considerably and that market must have x- perlenced the dullest week of many active ones, with quotations chang- ing only very slighty throughout the period, although closing slight- ly lower on balance.

Here in Hong Kong rates are more mostly nominal, pending active trading. Hong Kong Elec- trics have steadied to $64, small sales having been exe.uted at this. China Lights are either side of $14.50 for Cash $1480 December. Telephones (old) came to business at $29 and the New at $10.90.. Trama exchanged at $11.90, b close 25 cents higher on the week at $12.25 sales, Star Ferries sold at $93 and Yaumati Ferries ate now up to $25.

Dairies have small enquiries at $22.25, Cements stagnate around Silver prices dropped 1/8 yes-$11.50 and Ropes are freely offered terday for both, deliveries, the at $3.80.

SHANGHAI DOLLARS Sellers were quoted at 103 15/16; buyers at 105 1/18 for casn.

SHANGHAI -MARKET

There were sellers of Sterling at 1/24, buyers at 1/2 17/32 US Dollars at 291, buyers at 29 9/16 for cash. Steady.
