Arrangements that were carefully planned by a hard working committee for same considerable period culminated in the Romans Fair which, was held in the St. Andrew's Church, grounds on Saturs day afternoon and was voted by all an unqualified success. Ideal weather favoured the function and the grounds presented a very colourful scene with an unending throng of people making their way to the different stalls or sideshow attractions. Pretty girls, dressed in rpsy costumes, tent, à touch of the real fair spirit which prevalled throughout the afternoon.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Lady Calde- cott,

the wife of H. E the Governor, Blr. Andrew Caldecott, arrived to declare open the Falk. Her Ladyship was accompanied by His Excellency and attended by Capt. W. J. R. Cragg, A.D.C.

ADDRESS OF WELCOME In his address of welcome, the Chairman, the Rev. J. R. Higgs said:

"Before I ask Lady Caldecott to declare this Fair open. I want to say just two things. A word of thanks to all who have helped us and a word about the objects for which we have organised this Fair again this year.

"Mr. Dawson and

Mr. Kirby have been our secretaries this year and they, together with the stall- holders and helpers, are worthy of praise beyond any words I can find to express it. Many too of the firms both of Hong Kong and Kow- loon, the Police and the Fress and a host of others have assisted us, and we say a big "thank you"

to the "The proceeds will go V.D.M.A. and. our own. church. That may sound a prosiac thing to say. Actually it means that away up in the interior of China Bome poor child will receive an education, some hospital or dis- pensary "will be given money to help it carry on its splendid work, some one will hear the Gospel for the first time. That is what it means to give, to the Victoria Diocesan Missionary. Association.

"In our own Church it will assist with all the work in which we are engaged, spiritual, morai

and charitable. That is what we mean when we say that a part of the money will be given to St. An- drew's.

"It is now my very pleasant pri- vilege to welcome Lady Caldecott and His Excellency the Governor to our Gipsy Camp. It is the first time we have had the honour of their presence and we trust we do not appear too awe-inspiring. We are very harmless gipsies!

"We appreciate more than we can say their goodness in being with us to-day. I now ask her Ladyship to declare the Fair open." (Applause),

וי

Lady Caldecott then declared the Fair open, saying, "I have very much pleasure in declaring this Fair open. I wish it every suc- cess." (Applause).

Lady Caldecott was then present- ed with a bouquet of violets by little Patsy Dawson, who was dreased as a rickshaw-man, pulling a miniature rickshaw behind her, and on the seat of which lay the bouquet of violets."

FUN OF THE FAIR After Lady Caldecott had de- clared the Fair open, a large crowd' passed through the specially erect

gate leading to the Fair grounds.
