THE
FALLACY OF
GRADUALISM
BY
“Scrutator”
The fallacy of Christianity to-day is a belief in gradualism. It is represented in every pro- Tessing Christian who diselaims a revolutionary responsibility to society, and argues that God's
Kingdom can only be achieved by peaceful penetration of social life. Gradualism is madder than the woman who married the confirmed
thority and threw her erstwhile terror of excommunication back in
WHY WAIT

And why should we walt? Why should we leave time to work its havoc upon an already weakening and decaying formulation of Chris- tianity?

It is not yet too late to save our world.

Subject: "Probation after Death." The subject of the Lesson Sermon in all Christian Science Churches to-morrow, October 25, will be “Probation after Death.”
The Golden Text will be "The righteous also shall hold on his way. and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger." (Job 17: 9).
Amongst others. the following citations from the Bible will be
given grace according to the mea- sure of the gift of Christ. Where- fore he saith, when he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. Be ye therefore followers of God as dear children; And walk in loye, as The inhuman machine of the Christ also hath loved us, and hath modern economic world-order, is given himself for us an offering and human only because Christianity a sacrifice to God for a sweet- has been too effete and respect-smelling savour.

It is mad, because no true Christian can love an evil thing. and even the Armest bellevers in gradualism unite to denounce the viciousness of our present economic and so- cial life. But Christ's religion is one of love; the world is saved by love; and so the gradualist fails!"
The Christian revolutionary, the true Christian, refuses to accept as binding upon his life the econo- mic system under which the world lives: he repudiates the whole thing, because he hates it, because it is a blank denial of Christ, and Christian love. Unfortunately that refusal, that repudiation is not yet completely articulate. or the
world would have found itself in
the throes of the greatest upheaval that history has ever experienced. But that upheaval is coming, and unless it is initiated and led by the friends of Christ, it will be born in- to the world by an unholy dis- content which will grow into an
even greater menace to mankind's highest welfare than that which at
present threatens and stifles us un- der the existing economic and so cial system,
