SQUADRON TOREDO OFFICER
Commander W. A. Dallmeyer. who has been appointed to the Hood, will take up the post of squadron torpedo officer in the Battle Cruiser Squadron, which is in process of transfer from the Home to the Mediterranean Fleet. Commander Dallmeyer was pro moted in the mid-summer ist, and has hitherto been squadron tor- pedo officer, 1st Battle Squadron, Mediterranean. He served as a midshipman of H.M.S. Royal Sovereign in the Grand Fleet in 1917-18, and specialized in tor pedoes in 1926.
COMMANDER KINGDON
RETIRED Lieutenant-Commander W. N. Kingdon, whose retirement at his own request with the rank of com- mander was announced recently, has had 31 years in the Navy, which he entered as a cadet at Osborne in 1905. When the War began he was sub-lieutenant of the cruiser Roxburgh in the Grand
Fleet, but a few months later moved into the minesweeper Leda. After his promotion to lieutenant in 1915 he joined the battleship Teméraire, Grand Fleet, in which he served until 1918, when he was appointed in command of the minesweeper Holderness. His cor- mands since the War have in-

(BY LONGSHOREMAN). During the 24 hours ended no 9.00 a.m. yesterday, the freight returns. received from the Har- bour Office, showed a moderate tonnage movement.
