As a result of the mission of Mr. Kooy Ching and Generals Ching Chim and Chu Pui-teh to Nanning as peace mediators in the settlement of the Nanking Kwangsi dispute, it is reported that Generals Li Tsung-jen and Pei Chung-hsi have accepted the Central Government's terms of setɗement.

The Central Government has accordingly issued three mandates ALS
(a) General Li Tsung-jen to be appointed as Chairman of the Kwangsi Military Council;
(b) General Pei Chung-hsi to be appointed as Deputy Chairman of the Chekiang Military Council; and,
(c) General Wang Shao-hung to be appointed as Chairman of the Chekiang Provincial Government.-Chinese Evening Post.

Sir.-The question of slum clearance in Hong Kong is one that should interest every citizen of the Colony, irrespective of race or creed, but while it is a subject which should be given the widest pubii. city possible, one must be careful, in one's "keen desire to place facts and figures before the public, not to be too enthusiastic and consequently advance plans that are impracticable due to sheer ambitiousness. It must be realised that in a scheme of such gigantic proportious, a great many difficulties will be encoun- tered to pull it through.
A Housing Commission was ap- pointed by the Government last year to deal with, amongst other things, the clearance of the slum areas, and it is no doubt due to the difficulties encountered that their progress has been so slow.
