Black Costumes Usually
Favoured By Blondes,
Says Ginger Rogers
"There seems to be same psycho- logical reason why blondes
wear
so much black, but I don't claim to

so I can't explain it.
However, I
do know that I've never known a blonde who didn't put black as her favourite colout, and who didn' feel better in it than in anything else."
I was Ginger Rogers speaking. and who should know better than Ginger, for she is one of the most unusual blondes in the Alm city.
"With a true womanly instinct," went on Ginger, star of RKO Ra- " dlo's "Follow the Fleet," "they pro- bably know that black does more colour. for them than any other
The "primary reason for blondes looking especially well in black is the contrast i gives their light hair. In light colours, the average blonde may look attractive, but it does not give her the definite per- sonality that black clothes seem to Impart.
"Theri, too, we might as well face another important factor. Yellow hair is bright in Itself, and for this reason, bright colours often make the blonde look a little too fam- boyant, no. matter how natural her blondeness may be. Dark co- ours are the best way to guard against this.

"Every woman, whether con- sciously or not, dresses for men to sume exiert. And as I've hardly ever known a man who didn't have something favourable to say about a black outfit on a woman, this fact may have something to de with its popularity. I know that Is true in my own case, for my hus- band, Lew Ayres, prefers black on me.
"Talsu belleve most men think black adds something exotic and glamorous to a blonde. And for this reason, I think they always find their interestin tile. picqued when a blonde appears in black, than in-say-blue or green DTOWII.

While this is a little paradoxical, I'm sure that whar appeals to them is the fact that 15 does make a blonde look appealing and exotic, but at the same time it conservative, And men, as it is well known, are more conservative Than women."

FIRST SENSATION OF PARIS COLLECTIONS
Velvet To Become Fashionable
Evening skirts silt to well above the knee and showing a consider- able amount of mb are the rat startling revelation of the "winter openings in Paris. Marcel Rochas (who led off the important dress shows) has them in clinging black velvet: but as a variation he shows discreetly velling skirts. with bodices the centres of which are cut away almost to the waistline..
Skirts are shorter. That is an Incontestable fact, and as evident in day clothes as in evening wear. No evening gowns trail in the Rochas collection. and many are only ankle-length, while a number of his rich lamé dinner dresses are 'designed just like sports dresses- with pleated skirts. Peter Pan collars, and buttoned "schoolgirl" bodices,

For example, Rochas puts a gar- land design of velvet roses round the flaring skirt of one of his tunic-coats; and below the roses Is a Band of silver fox. SQ elaborate ornamentation is a thing which must be reckoned with.

It looks as if women will be able to put away their handbags in the winter. Rochas suggests pockets which are meant to be used--with bag-clap tops to keep one's trea- sures from falling out. Indeed these pockets" look"like a couple of cloth handbags. sewn on either side of his coats.
