NON-INTERVENTION IN SPANISH

CIVIL WAR

H

Reactions To French Proposals

ITALIAN AMBASSADOR MEETS DELBOS

Inconsistencies Pointed Out In Press Articles

("Hong Kong Dally Press" Special)

Paris, August 5. The British Government's attitude towards the French pre- posals of neutrality of the four powers in the Spanish civil war is discussed here by the press, and in politieal circles it is gen- erally accepted with satisfaction.

The Echo de Paris" however, points out that Britain de- mandy the negotiations to go on through ordinary diplomatic channels, and the original French idea of a conference of the Algericas Treaty signatories had to be dropped in view of British objections.

PRESS WARNING

The usually well-informed far- elgn editor of the "Oeuvre" on the other hand asserts that the Italian Ambassador, 11 1 conversation with Foreign Minister Delbos, drew -the latter's attention. to the incom- patibility of the proposed neutrality and certain articles in the French left wing press.- Transocean News Service.

LONDON VIEWS

London, Aug. 5. Morning papers to-day welcome the Government's reply to France. supporting the non-intervention pact plan with respect to the Spanish hostilities.

The "Times" saya the Govern- ment is unquestionably right. It is Imperative that a general policy of non-intervention be adopted. The principles for which the two sides are fighting are cherished dearly by the majorities or minorities of every country. The first care of ather countries inust be to ward off the danger of the condagration spreading.

Europe, says the paper, is full- of tinder which a single spark"of partikanship might set ablaze. The civil war in Spain might very easily become a civil war in Europe.~~ Reuter

OTHERS TO BE SOUNDED
