REBELS MURDER ALL CONVENT INMATES
Wholesale Looting And Destruction
London, July 21. Although news from Madrid indicates that prospects of a food shortage have been diminished by the Government successes, notably the capture of Albacete, enabling the reopening of com- munications with Valencia, news that Reuter has just arrived at Cerbere on the Franco-Spanish frontier from Barcelona shows that Barcelona is in peril, being starved out despite the fact that It is in Government hands.
A correspondent gives a vivid description of the shocking con- ditions there. He saw human and animal corpses lying on the streets where the stench was terrible. He relates that a group of rebel officers who had taken refuge in a convent forced the sur- render of all inmates who were promptly murdered. One victim had the less cut off.
