HONG KONG DAILY PRESS. THURSDAY, JULY 23, 1936.
STAPLES SURPRISES
While they cannot take the place of fresh meat, sausages are a use- ful stand-by. They keep wel, com- bine easily with other foods, and can be used in many interesting ways for breakfast, lunch, of sup- Der. To fry sausages perfectly they should be rolled in seasoned flour, pricked all over with a fork, and cooked slowly with scarcely any fat in the pan. Sausages are -excellent with
something of a sharp flavour, such as alices of fried apple or tinned or frush pine- apple.
Other and more unusual ways of serving sausages are as follows: For lunch, servo sausage ple. Cover the bottom of a pre-dish with thick slices of skinned sausage and nover with lightly tried onion. -Cover this with sliced, skinned tomatoes, then put another layer of sausage on top, seasoning each layer. Add enough thick gravy al- most to cover, then put a layer of mashed potato on top. Roughen with a fork, pour some melted but- ter over, and cock in a father hot oven for about an hour.
