Madrid, July 18. In a radio announcement broadcast on Saturday afternoon. the Spanish government declared that the "criminal attempt against the Republic" had falled.

The rovernment had walted so long before minking an off- cial statement, it was added, because they first wanted to obtain accurate information and to take urgent and stern action for the suppression of the movement.

Thanks to the comprehensive measures enforced, pepce, and order prevailed throughout Spain and the movement obtained no support on the Peninsula, being confined to sections of the Moroccan troops which had forgotten their duty to their country.
