The New Bombers
HIGH-SPEED STRATEGY AND TACTICS
Special Air Mall Service)
London, June 27. The R.AF. Display this year is something more than a pubite entertainment. As a fiying spectacle it should be better than it has ever been. "It should be more exciting and Impressive and yet more intimate, with its extended use of wireless telephony between the ground and aircraft in fight. But it will also render s more important service as the agency for revealing to the tax- payer the nature and qual ty of the aeroplanes on which the money he is supplying for the expansion of the RA.F. will be spent. miles an hour more than the best the squadrons are using at present. If the old ratio between bomber and fighter speeds had been pre- served it might be concluded that some among the new bombers should be capable of 280 miles an hour. In the present stage there is no official information to con- firm or refute the assumption. Such evidence as the eyes of the onlooker at a flying display may afford will suggest that one of the new bombers has a still higher speed. In the civil form in which the Bristol Blenheim first appeared it was credited with a top speed of 268 miles
Hour. Precise figures are not essential to the consideration of what these new aeroplanes in large numbers may mean in the air defence of Great Britain and her possessions.
