The question of forfeiture of dangerous goods estimated at $10,000 figured prominently in several summons against Mr. Chan Ching Wo, of No. 46. Sai Yeung Choi Street for possession of dan- gerous goods which was heard by Mr. E. Elmsworth at the Kowloon Magistracy yesterday.
Mr. E. S. C. Brooks for the defence sald that he understand that the authorities were contemplating steps for the accused to forfeit his stocks, which he submitted was a gross injustice. Such a step would deprive his clients not only of their whole stock and trade but, a legitimate business. It represented their whole capital. Mr. J. C. Fitz-Henry of the Fire Department who prosecuted intimated that he had instructions to ask for the forfeiture of all the oil in the godown. The premises in question, adjoining the "Socony" property, at Lai Chi Kok were particularly unsuitable. It constituted a danger to the Standard Oil concern, who had several storage tanks in the immediate vicinity.
Interesting revelations ·01 the discovery of a "secret chamber" were also disclosed during the hearing. In this chamber was found un apparatus for "cold bleeching" several tanks and a motor air compressor. The dis- covery was made on May 20, as a result of a surprise visis by the Are authorities.
