Silver prices dropped 1/16 yes- terday for both deliveries, the quotations being 19 7/8 for Ready and Forward. Silver advices re- ported India 33 having bought. China sold. After the official fix- ing there were some short cover- ing and China sold. The market closed steady. In America the rate was unchanged at 44 3/4 for Spot.*
The London-New York cross-rate was higher at 500. New York London was quoted at 4.09 31/32
MARKET
Opened easy. Later the market reacted slightly but towards the close the tone was barely steady.
STERLING
There were buyers after the opening at 1/3 7/18 but offers at 1/3 13/32 were accepted for various deliveries followed by transactions at 1/3 3/8 for near and forward and 1/3 11/33 was also done for December and August. The mar- ket then reacted slightly and offers at 1/3 3/8 were again accepted for near and forward, finishing with small sellers at 1/3 3/8 June and 1/3 11/32 July-December, buyers at 1/32 higher respectively.
U.S. DOLLARS Business was done shortly after the opening at 32 1/8 for cash. Later 32 1/16 and 32 were also arranged for near and forward, Inishing with small sellers at 32 for June and 31 15/16 July-Decem- ber, buyers at 1/13 higher respec- tively,
