Notorious Gossip

Philip Merivale is making his Arst movie for Hollywood. The studio executives have done their best to make him feel at home, but his director was a lttle ap- prehensive on the first day of shooting. "I know it must be hard for you, Mr. Merivale." he said, "working without an audi- ence"

“Not at all." answered Mr. Meri- vale. "I've just been acting Shake-speare in New York."

The following incident involving the new liner, Queen Mary, hap- pened while the ship was under construction at Clydebank. A gen- tlemad lunching in a popular Glas- gow restaurant asked the walter where he should go sightseeing. The waiter immediately suggested Clydebank and the gigantle liner. The suggestion fell flat-the customer was Sir Edgar Britten, the Cunard commodore.

At the wedding anniversary of a Scottish magnate. one of the guests, noticing a somewhat lonely looking and rather shabby at- tired man in a corner, walked over and sat beside him,

"I was introduced to you, but I did not catch your name," he said. "My name," replied the other, "Is Blan."

"On. then you are a relative of our host?"

"Yes," rejoined the poor rela- tion. "I'm 2 cousin $200,000 re- moved."

"What is your age?" asked the magistrate.

"Twenty-one years and some months." replied the woman wit- ness.

"Just how many months? know you are on your cath?"

"A hundred and twenty."
