FAMILY TRAITS

OBJECTS OF NEW BUREAU OF HEREDITY

Lundon, May 11. Pecular tamily traits which may have been handed down from one ¡generation to another 'are being sought by the newly formed Bureau of Human Hereditary.

The Bureau, which has its head- quarters in Gower Street, London, W.C aims at building up a store- house of information about in- herited characteristics. no matter how strange or weird they may be. Mrs. C, B. S. Hodson, honorary general secretary of the Bureau, discussing Its alms and objects with a reporter, said that in farm- ing and stock-breeding a know- ledge of hereditary had proved sa taluable that bureaux had been set up dealing with plant and animal gentics, where information was carefully collected and made avail able to agriculturists.

"Until now there has not been a similar service. for those interested in the question of human heredi- tary" said Mrs. Hodson.

We know that as the result of ré- numerous experiments and search work a mass of information 'on this subject exists, but it has never been collated and made available for the people needing it In addition to the facts ob

those who have tainable from made a close study of heredity and have conducted experiments, we also want any help which the man- in-the-street can give with regard to family characteristica."

Mrs. Hodson said, that it was thought that it would take the Bureau about three years to collect all that data,

"We shall then be ready to an- swer any inquiries we may receive.

Mrs. Hodson pointed out that three classes of people who urgent- the the information ly need Bureau seeks are the medical pro- fession, educationists, and research workers.

PUNISHMENT” ·

AT THE KING'S AND "ALHAMBRA ·

"Crime and Punishment" a stir- ring drama vividly portrayed on the Bcreens at the King's and Alhambra theatres by Edward Arnold and Peter Lorre and a capable cast gives us food for thought on the present day crimes.

The story as unfolded on the screens thus:

Raskolnikov, (Lorre) & Studeny is starving to death in his garret even though he has sold a brilliant article on the criminal mind. Des- perate, and feeling that a man with his mentality can commit the per- fect crime, he murders and rots a wretched pawnbroker. He thinks everything is planned perfectly; but he has not provided against his gnawing conscience.

The youthful romance is charm- ingly carried out by Eric Linden and Mickey and Cecilia Parker, Rooney, Spring Byington, Charles Grapewin. Frank Albertson, Ed- ward Nugent, Bonith Granville and
