RAIN MARS LAWN BOWLS FIXTURES HONG KONG GOLF

Little Headway Made In Open Championships

TO-DAY'S PROSPECTS

(BY SHORT. HEAD")

The inclement weather which prevailed in the Colony during the whole of last week gave Hong Kong the very much needed water, but was primarily respon sible for the "wash out" of all sports, partichilarly in Lawn Bowls, both Leagues and Championships. At the time of writing things look quite bright and if old nun weather" keeps it up there is every prospect of the League games being carried out to-day.

The much calked of C.C.C. "B" when will have their hands tull playing away against the K.C.C. The Valley team will be fielding the strongest team possible. "Bill" Way will make his first appearance In a league match this season, as this gentleman had been fur. sometime. He will be No. 2 in Galf's Tink, and will undoubtedly help to strengthen that, tink by his inclu- sion. Field and Rosselet who so far have retained their 100 per cent, unbeaten record as skips will be given severe test to-day. Field's combination, the strongest of the -three rinks will, I think, be able to hold their own, but I doubt very much whether Rosselet's rink will be good enough to win. With Leo- nard and young "A.M" playing! excellent bowls at the moment think Field's rink will be able to ward of the. strongest challenge from the K.C.C.

Talkoo too have quite a number of well-known players on their list, but the Inclusion of new blood and the lack of playing together as a eam will have much to do with thelt form. Their skips, Chalmers,

Cral'rower "B":-A. J. Coelho, B. W. Weir and P. C. Wallace are all well-known on the greens and pro-Whiteman, M. A. R. Souza. C. S. vided they are given the full sup- Rossefet. (skip); J. W. A very even game should be seen on the Civil Service Green when the home team entertains their neigh- bour the Police, Bolt teams are about of equal strength and the Eghting spirit Police with their

behind the whole team should just be able to turn the tables on their neighbour.

LEADERS SHOULD WIN Unless something really sensa- tional happens the Indians are dite for a defeat at the hands of the C.C.C. "A." I do not see how this defeat can be avoided, The Indians I do say play quite well when at "home" but playing on a strange green will find 'matters very much to their dislike. In fact they have but one rink in which to depend upon and that is Dallah's four which is about the strongest paper. Indians' combination on This rink I am sure will be att to give a good "account of them- selves against any of the Cham- plons' rink and should it be pitied against say Omar's four or Luz's rink a good game should result..

"C.C.C. "A" appears to me to be quite formidable. In fact I believe their rinkware of equal strength al- though it has been known that Basa's rink (reputed to be the weakest had been their mainstay in

onc match. As I said before 'only unforeseen circumstances and sensational play by the Indians will rob the league leaders of the points. win Club de Recreio should against Kowloon Docks. Three well tried and skipped rinks, the Portu- guese should be able to give off their best against any team in the senior league and their victory to- day against the Dockers I think will be a very big one,

The following are some of the probable teams.

TARLETON KEEPS HIS TITLE

EASY POINTS

VICTORY OVER KING

H

re-

(BY HAROLD LEWIS)

Londen May 7. Nel Tarleton, of Liverpool. tained the British feather-weight when be beat championship

of King

Manchester Johnny holder of the bantam-weight title, on points in a 15-round contest at the Liverpool football ground, Alfield, last night.

Tarleton has been fighting for 17 years, but he has never given such a dazzling display of ring- craft us he did against King. He began with the obvious intention al letting his opponent do the leading and discovering exactly were his strong points.

By the end of the third round

what

which the challenger scored few points. King had neither the speed to plerce Tarleton's, splendid defence, nor the ability to lure the champion into altering his tactics,

Tarleton's left hand pulled up King almost every time the latter rushed in. King's objective was body-his only hope of doing any real damage But Tarleton stood off, invited the lead, and went tri with a deadly right to the heart. King persisted in carrying the fight to his opponent to the end. and Tarleton's flashing left sound

the on victorious tattoo eda challenger's' face.

King was down on three occa signs. In the fourth round he ran into a right upper-cut and took a count of six, a right to the heart put him down again for seven in In the the seventh "round," and thirteenth he took a count of Chree from a left to the body'.

He was completely outclassed. Even when be did get inside Tar-. leton's defence he wasted oppor- Lunities by hitting his opponent on the back of the head. and was

it was suite apparent that what-warned for this. ever King possessed in the matter 01 courage was heavily outweighed by the skill and speed of Tarleton. I cannot recall any chan "on- ship fight, except that between Petersen and McAvoy recently, in

In points of generalship, speed and variety of punching Tarleton was far ahead of King, who land- ed only one punch of any conse quence in the fight-a right to the jaw in the fifth round.
