SUCCESSFUL RACE MEETING

AT MACAO

Large Crowd Attends

COURSE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION

Races were held at Macão yesterday and were attended by a large crowd mostly from Hong Kong. It is a great pity "that so few residents in Macao seem to be Interested in 'racing, werd they se disposed undoubtedly bumper meetings would be held.

The course was in excellent condition, the turf was nice and springy, making the going very good and altogether it is a very attractive course. Unfortunately the weather was not kind. Some of the fields might well have been bigger and owners would help Jockey Clubs were they to run their ponles more. It is' alwayS very noticeable that the betting Improves greatly in races where there are blɛ Belds.

Several races yesterday were Also ran:-Delightful Chance, Handicaps and it seems a pity that Poplar Star, Classic. Hall, and by these means ponies cannot be

The Ladies race was A very sporting event, most of the jockeys never having ridden a race before. in fact some of them have only recently learnt to ride and great praise is due to Mr. Bob Charles for his excellent instruction. This race was won by Miss Stokes on R.T.P. and was a good example of how weil a horse will gallop when he is left to do his stuff himself.

We hear that there is to be an- other meeting at Macao in June. which should draw a big crowd.

Some of the dividends at the Totalisator were good, Burgomaster paid $23.50 for a win, Estover paid $20.40 for a win and $20.30 for a place and R.T.P., in the last race pald $14.70 for a win.

The Cash Sweeps were not large except : the 4th Race, The Jockey Club Cup, when the lucky number gathered in $728.30.
