LONDON WAITING FOR GERMAN ANSWER
French Concessions Towards
Peace Emphasised
London, March 21.
Herr von Ribbentrop, Ambassador at London to the German Chancellor, decided to-day to return to Berlin to make a person- al report to Here Hitler so that the fullest possible informa- tion should be at the disposal of the German Government be- fore drafting their reply to the proposals contained in the Four- Power agreement respecting the Rhineland The German de- legate travelled to Berlin by air leaving in a special aeroplane In the early afternoon. It is probable -he will return with the German reply on Monday.
A lull is therefore expected during the next 24 hours, but in accordance with his undertaking to the German delegate Mr. Anthony Eden is holding himself in readiness in case his views. on any point may be sought. He left London this afternoon for Chequers where he will be the guest to-night of the Prime Minister, but will be available for instant recall to London it required. Re win any case, return to the Foreign Office to- morrow.
It has been made clear to the German delegate that, a stated in 'text of the powers' agreement, the plans outlined there represent the proposals which should not necessarily be regard- ed as rigid if alternative German plans for holding the position in the interim period pending the meeting to effect, a new seitle- ment in the West can be agreed upon. It is, however, em- phasised that contributions must of necessity be made by all parties and the German concessions to prepare the way for discussion of the wider Issues raised in Herr Hitler's memoran- dùm are confidently awaited.

On the part of France a very considerable contribution has been made. It is pointed out in French circles in London that she has waived her major rights under th Locarno Treaty.
