RE-MILITARISATION OF RHINELAND
RHINELAND AND DENUNCIATION OF LOCARNO
German Decision Causes
Great Sensation
France Invoking Action Through The League
London, March 7.
The situation created by entry to-day of German troops into the demilitarised Rhineland Zone and by terms of the memoran« dum handed by the German Foreign Minister, Baron Von New- rath.... to the Ambassadors of the powers who are signaturies of the Locarno Treaty is receiving early and careful consideration by the British Government.
While the British Ambassador In Berlin was being presented with a copy of the memorandum, the terms of the document were being revealed to the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden by the German, Ambassador in London. Later, Mr. Eden visited the Prime Minister at Chequers, his country house, to discuss with him matters which are thus raised and consultations with others of his ministeria! colleagues will take place during the woek-end. On Monday the whole position will be reviewed at a meeting of the Cabinet already called for that day.
