Post Office engineers have begun to lay the first television cable/ in Britain, connecting London and Birmingham; which will probably be the site of the next television station.
This cable, which costs £1,000 a mile to lay, will be able to carry 200 simultaneous conversations when not required for television.
The Birmingham station will take some of its programmes by land-line from the Alexandra Palace. It will also be possible to connect the Alexandra Palace with Broadcasting House six and a-half miles away, and thus to points for "outside" relays, such as West- minster Abbey
