THUMBNAIL SKETCHES OF LIFE IN GLASGOW

UNEMPLOYMENT THE CAUSE

OF POVERTY

Rotary Club Address

The Rev. Mackenzie Dow, minister of the Union Church, Hong Kong, gave very moving address to local rotarians at the weekly Tiffin held on the Roof Garden of the Hong Kong Hote! yesterday, when he related brief 'thumbnail sketches of life in Glasgow that vividly showed the poverty and unemployment, rank in this great metropolia,

י

The speaker fald stress on the fact that he was not treat- ing the subject from a political or statistical po'nt of view, nor so an expert in Industry, but he wished to convey to his listen- ers the effect of poverty and unemployment on the lives of the people in Glasgow. It was not for those unacquainted with realities to judge harshly, but rather to sympathise. A'l one had to do was to try to remember conditions as they really where before passing any undue critic'sm.
