RATING OF THE QUEEN MARY
Views Of United States Lines
London, Jan. 14 The following statement on the rating of the ships in the North Atlantic has been made to The Zines by Mr. S. J. Jackson, vice president of the United States
Linea:-
With reference to the statement in The Times of January 13 regard. ing the status of the Queen Mary as a cabin ship, it might be pointed but that this vessel was not classed or designated a cabin liner by the Atlantic Conference, as this is a fatter that is entirely in the hands of her owners. Regarding the pos aibility of serious consequences, even extending to an Atlantic rate war, resulting from the Cunard White Star's action in giving notice of withdrawal from the Atlantio Conference. cpinion in shipping circles is divided. Soms shipping experts consider that, as bas han- pened before, effect will not be given to the notice and the diffi culties will be overcoing, Others, however think that the position may not be so easily rectified,
Lines generally felt that there is strong reason for doubting if it is properly within the spirit of the conference to request a cahin grad ing for a ship designed as a de luze first claxe liner second to none, three times as large ne the Lazenat.
