3 Kids and A Queen”

H

**Three Kids and A Queen " now showing at the Alhambra Theatre features May Robson, grand old lady of the sliver screen, in her first starring role. She is shown as an eccentric old lady who is found lying on, the roadway, by three kids and more in help than anything else, the youngsters took her home where she is cared for by the whole family,

All goes well until the father of the humble homestead (Henry "Armetta) discovers that the whole country side is looking for the old lady, and from this stage com- plications set in thick and fast.

You will find that May Robson as Mary Jane Baxter, a fabulously rich old woman, is rather hateful in the opening scenes of the pic- ture, but after she is taken into the bosom of the family, she be comes really delightful in her portrayal of a soul who has come about the simple and beautiful little things of life too late in her own lifetime, but attempts to make up för her past selfishness by being sweet to all the "Orsatti" family.

The three kids one of whom is Frankie Darro, are splendid and give convincing performances. Charlotte Henry, William Benedict and Henry Armetta complete a formidable cast.

HOLLYWOOD

Two Items that appeared in the world's newspapers recently con- cern the past and the future of the ever-present Mickey Mouse.

In addition to the picture, which is entertaining and amusing to the extreme, "Hong Kong's Favourite Entertainers" Cowen and Bailey, together with Ted and Evelyn gave several very interesting items on the stare, in a programme that is as varied as it is well rendered. ~.

One-and the one that concerns the future is the refusal of Lloyd's to insure the life of Mickevį for Ave million dollars. Those actuarial experts, who will take a bet on anything with the proper odds, refused one on Mickey's life on the ground that Mickey Mouse is immortal and therefore not fair game for the insurance salesmen.

BARBARY COAST

There was a time, confesses Miriam Hopkins, star of the Sam- uel Goldwyn production. "Bar- "bary Coast," when she didn't care much about clothes, and not car- ing, knew less. To-day "her re- putation for chic is widespread, Miriam believes that while wen- sonal smartness is important the only way to achieve real individ- uality in clothes is by breaking a few rules.

But let this charming (Holdwyn star" speak for herself."

ΣΠ the ense of Alexander Korda's widely herald production, "Things to Come," based on the H. G. Wells prophetic vision of world history, London Films, the producers, are deliberately "re- fraining from sending out pho- tographs of certain sequences of their picture. There is a good reason for this: they do not want rival producers to get advance in formation about these ingenious scenes.

A few weeks ago the owners of a large European newspaper offer- ed London Films a handsome sum for a half dozen of these photos- and were refused. That's news!

GARY COOPER HONOURED

Elsie Ferguson, famous actress who, 13 years ago, appeared op- posite Wallace Reid aa the Du- chess of Tower's in Paramount's alient version of "Peter Ibbetson," recently was the guest of Gary Cooper and John Halliday, who are cast for the new talking ver- sion.

Miss Ferguson has said that John Halliday, who is a Scots- man, plays the part of the Duke af Towers better than anyone she has seen or acted with on the

stage.

Halliday, who went from his native country to finish his edu- cation at Cambridge University, was some time ago a very success- ful actor who invested his life savings in a gold mine.

The mine proved to be worth- less, so Haliday had to go back to acting again, and is now not only one of the most sought- after players in Hollywood for "English" parts, but also has a contract with Paramount,

Halliday also plays an import- ant part with Marlene Dietrich in DESTRE-Gary Cooper has the big part here, too--and in a few days he is going to New Zealand on a fishing expedition, “
