In a formal announcement of the order extending for 90 days the time. In which the United
States Lines must award a contract for construction of a 'sister ship to the Manhattan and Washington, Roper, the United States Secretary of Commerce, revealed a mandate for additional safety factors in the new ship to replace the Levia- than, states the New York Journal
of Commerce.
In extending to Dec. 18 the time for the company to comply
with the contract and avoid the $1,000,000 £200,000 at pari pen
alty, the order laid down the fol- lowing schedule, which must be adhered to.
