HOME RUGBY FOOTBALL
| New Zealand's Tactics
Criticised
(Special Air Mail Service?
London, Oct. 18. The match between the Cities and New Zealand at Old Annies- land yesterday was a great one and also a very disappointing one, not because the Cities were beaten" by nine points to eight, but be- cause the tactics of the visitors did not accord with our ideas of how the game should be played. The referee was most lenient, and the award of, only two penalty kick's for obstruction was, to my Idea, absurd; and it is ironical that the game should have been won by two penalty goals and a try to penalty goal and a goal.
The Cilies should have won this match, and probably would fad they not been interfered with in a manner contrary to the spirit of the game. New Zealand have many friends here, and we have always regretted the severance of Relations which took place after the visit of David Gallacher's side in 1905. But if they are to be wel- come here the spirit of the Rugby game must be observed. No one with any pretension to a know- ledge of the rules can be satisfied that they were observed in this match,
Enough has been said" on this point. As to the match, the Cities at tlines made the fatal mistake of trying to be too clever, kicking in derensive positions when they ought to have marked, and even WP. Logan, an eminently re- sourceful player. was at fault. He tried to get in his kick in the face of fast-following forwards, and had the_ball_charged down. He did not. riake the mistake a second time, märking as he should have done beforehand.
Safety is essential against these
men, and i must never be forgot ten that if the free kick does not gain ground it allows every man In the defence to take up a posi- tion which ensures strength,
CITIES' WILD PASS
The same criticism must be levelled against W. C. W. Murdoch and E. C. Hunter. They would pass when it was essential to con- solidate. The truth of the state- ment was shown when W. C. W. Murdoch got away on the right wing, and looked to have a chance of scoring: "Apparently hemmed In.. he threw a reverse pass. The ball travelled behind his back. This pass was made without due consideration of the position his men were in, and the ball went to M, M. Corner. who immediately turned defence Into attack.

As always, the New Zealanders were massed to defend, and when Corner turned defence into attack the way was laid open for a score.. The movement was a glorious one. The ball went from hand to hand from a position well within their own "25," and Solomon, finished it i ed to collapse, by touching down. Gülbert's kick, although a good one, went outside the upright,

Physicians know by experience, how quickly and surely Sanatogen will build up strength in debilitated patients.
Whatever the 'cause of the weakness, be it illness, overwork or worry, Sanatogen cannot fail to do good. The phosphorus it contains is pure strength to the weakened nerve-cells. The albumin. is nature's own' building material of bodily power. It is the intricate com bination of these two elements that has won Sanatogen the written recommendations of over 25,000 physicians, And the splendid part of it is that Sapatogen is not only a true tonic-food, but also very easily digestible, so that the weakest patient, and the weakest stomach, can digest it.
Sanatogen must do you good. It does not interfere with any medical treatment and every glassful brings you nearer to perfect health again. Shorten that tedious you period of convalescence. Be strong and healthy again." You can if you start your course of Sanatogen today...!.
