There was a large gathering of friends at the South China Athletic Association Clubhouse at Caroline Hill yesterday, at which the Hon. Mr. M. K. Lo, Honorary President of the Asso- ciation, was entertained to dinner and those assembled showed their appreciation of the signal honour conferred on him by the Government in electing him to a seat on the Legislative Council. Many speeches in Chinese were made in the course of the evening, all atressing Mr. Lo's great public 'services, and espec- ially what he had accomplished in" cementing good relationships on the field of sport.

Although within the past 15 years I have take a deep in- terest in public and charitable af- falrs, I know that I have not been able to achieve anything. Some years ago, due to the kindness of my fellow members I was elected President of this Association, and I recall with pleasure and grati- tude the assistance and co-opera- tion accorded to me by the then Chairman, Mr. Luke Oi Wan. Al- though I was able to do but little for the Association I know of no organization in Hong Kong which is so appreciative as the South China Athletic Association of any assistance rendered to the Asso-

In 1933 about one-quarter of the world's imports: of petroleum was Imported, by the United Kingdom. This amounted to 8.9 millions of tons, the country having the next highest importation taking 5.8 millions of tons. This supply was drawn from many sources, Vene- zuela being. In 1933, the chief country of origin. In that year Great Britain imported from Venezuela, mainly via the Dutch tons of West Indies, 3.300.000 petroleum.
