AT GENEVA

Committee Face Hopeless

Situation

ITALY ADAMANT IN DEMANDS

Wile Rome is said to be awaiting fresh proposals from the League which may form the basis for discussion, a very pessimistic impression prevails in Geneva where It is feared that the wide gap between the two standpoints cannot be bridged, Meanwhile there is talk of Italy withdrawing from the League.

The Committee of Five after a short meeting recognised that " the situation is practically hopeless-and after a further meeting on Tuesday or Wednesday it is expected that the Committee will report to the Council is failure in the conciliation efforts. At the resum- ed meeling the Committee will examine the article on which future League action is to be based.
