FIRE

Caused by Balloon **Exploding"

WELS.

Considerable excitement caused shortly after ten p.m. yes- terday when a fire broke out 'at' Sookunpoo.

The Hong Kong Ares Sports ground which has only been re- cently atted up with matsbeds erected all round the football feld was involved, the covered matshed on the south side of the ground being partly burnt:

Immediately on the outbreak, a call was but through to the Brigade and it was almost ten minutes before the first appliance arrived on the scene. Difficulty WES experienced In obtain ing water from the hydrants and when the first jet was started the fire had already obtained a strong hold on the matshed. Euckily the wind was blowing in the opposite direction and after a quarter of an hour the conflagration was finally subdued The appliance was under Station Officer J. Woollard while thu Emergency Squad" under Sergt. Wass was also present.

The pictures appearing on this page and on pages 1, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11 were taken at the Garden Party at Govern-

ment House given in hour of the members at Yong. Australia League.

How and where the lan- tern of balloon came is not known but two versions were given by in- dependent witnesses who saw the cause of the outbreak.
