SUMMER

WHAT THE STARS WEAR

CARNATIONS FOR THE

SUMMER

Joan Bennett, who la featured in three Paramount films-Mississippi and Two For Tonight, with Big Crosby, and Private Worlds, with Claudette Colbert and

Charles Boyer, is wearing one of the smartest summer outfits in Holly-

wood.

It consists of a white linen sult -carried out in classic tailored lines and a hat of stiffened linen with two bright red carnations on the brim.

Another carnation of the same hue adorns the lapel of Miss Ben- nett's Jacket, and red and white sports shoes and a red patent leather purse completed the costume.

CHIFFON "AND SATIN

There is something particularly alluring; about a soft colour prac Lically veiled by a sheer black material, and Travis Banton, the Paramount stylist, "predicts that a. negligee Incorporating this idea, worn by Sylvia Sidney in Accent On Youth, will have a great in- fluence on coming fashions.

Miss Bidney's negligee is of black chiffon, over blue satin, with full- ness in the sleeves and a sash of the blue satin tied about the waist

WENDY'S. NEW SUIT-

When Wendy Barrie, who is on contract W Paramount, comes over to England for a short holf- day soon, she will bring a copy of the suit she wears in The Big

Broadcast Of 1935,

It is in grey worsted, with lapels faced and stitched with navy linen.. the jacket is hip-length with a

one-button, single-breasted” treat- ment and the skirt is just eleven inches from the floor.

A HANDY IDEA!

Simultaneously with the start of her Paramount picture Hands Across The Table-Carole Lombard has introduced to Hollywood a new combination fashion and beauty

rad.

This is the wearing or almond gloves at night. They are natural coloured chamois gloves, appro- priate for midsummer, but they dre, saturated with almond meal, which keeps the hands soft and white besides glving them £11 elusive and alluring scent.

MARLENE SPONSORS NEW FABRIC

The first of the fabrics especially designed for Travis Banton's use in forthcoming Paramount specta.. cle pictures, will be worn by Mar- lene Dietrich in The Pearl Neck- lace, in which she will co-star with Gary Cooper.

The material is a heavy white faille, stiff and crisp, with 2 tra- cery of ostrich feathers in sliver thread running over it like "a shadowy printäa

Banton will drape this exquisite slk into an exotic evening gown with a new version of the bouffant silhouette.

YELLOW LACE FOR EVENING

Despite the fact that the period behind Gertrude Michael's gowns in Parameinta The Last Cutpoet is 1918, these styles would fit per- fectly into the modes of to-day. . One particularly fluttering even- ing gown worn by Miss Michael-- who, incidentally, is also featured in Paramount's Four Hours To Kill-is of yellow lace, draped in front and carrying a scarf which falls from the should- ers. Underneath the gown a slip of shimmering yellow satin adds a lustrous note.
